Mighty Sparrow The Base Lyrics

Long, long ago we didn't even know well
Not even a tip
Nobody said Chaguaramas was exchanged
For a few old battle ships
So when we ask the Yankees to move
Nobody really cares
They refuse to go, they say the base is theirs
Until 99 years

So we ask the Chief Minister, he say no
It isn't even registered, it's not sealed nor stamped
Well, somebody is a big big scamp
If they go remain let they take the Caroni swamp

Great Britain, the Mother Country
That's the one to blame
It seems to me no matter what we do
They ain't feeling shame
They took the ships away from the Yanks
And promised them this place
But neglected to see the papers were signed
For the Chaguaramas Base

So when we ask the Chief Minister, he say no
It isn't even registered, it's not sealed nor stamped
Well, somebody is a big big scamp
If they go remain let they take the Caroni swamp

During the war the enemy attacked And Britain was afraid
To keep all these islands under control
She couldn't make the grade
Is then she took the ships from the people
To defend she self
After the war she was so happy
She forget to sign the papers on the shelf

So we ask the Chief Minister, he say no, no
It isn't even registered, it's not sealed nor stamped
Somebody is a big big scamp
If they go remain let they take the Caroni swamp

I don't know why but the Yankees come down
In a aircraft carrier
So much planes and guns and ammunition
They must be come to inquire
If you see the ship, it's so big and long
They call it the Ranger
When it land in the place ah say somebody dead
Or the Doctor in danger

Still when you ask, he said "I am the Minister
And this thing isn't even registered, it's not sealed nor stamped"
I don't know who is the big big scamp
But if they go remain let them take the Caroni swamp
