Wildflower Lyrics

She's faced the hardest times you could imagine
And many times her eyes fought back the tears
And when her youthful world was about to fall in
Each time her slender shoulders bore the weight of all her fears
And a sorrow no one hears
Still rings in midnight silence in her ears

Let her cry, for she's a lady (She's a lady)
Let her dream, for she's a child (Child)
Let the rain fall down upon her
She's a free and gentle flower growing wild

And if by chance that I should hold her (If by chance that I should hold
her)
Let me hold her for a time (Let me hold her for a time)
And if allowed just one possession
I would pick her from the garden to be mine (I would pick her from the
garden to be mine)

Mm-mm-mm, mm-mm
Be careful how you touch her, for she'll awaken
And sleep's the only freedom that she knows
And when you walk into her eyes, you won't believe
The way she's always payin' for a debt she never owed
And a silent wind still blows
That only she can hear, and so she goes

Let her cry, for she's a lady
Let her dream, for she's a child
Let the rain fall down upon her
She's a free and gentle flower growing wild

Let her cry, for she's a lady (She's a lady)
Let her dream, for she's a child
Let the rain fall down upon her
She's a free and gentle flower growing wild
She's a flower growing wild
She's free

Nomatter what race or age this lady referred to is she's embarked on sorrows and responsibilities that weigh heavy on her existence. ( although I personally believe that it's speaking of black women through the ages of the black American experience in the United States of America. The woman's suffrage movement in America and throughput the world has many females historically beat down by misogynistic philosophy that meet the qualifications of consideration exhibit in these lyrics. )

A young woman who has had a hard life is likened to a wild flower. Yet someone sees her in her beauty and grace, understands her hurts and her escapes from them in sleep. He loves this vision and would like to take her into his life and make it better. She cries as a woman might but she had the dreams that a child might look for. A beautiful song and one that many women identify with. It is understood more by women who can identify with this woman, free as the wild flower but longing for someone to love her. I love this song.

My Mother committed suicide at the age of 60. This song describes her. I wish I had understood before it was too late.

It means women are important-so don't take them for granite.

This reminds me of a bad time in my childhood, which like it says, paying for a debt I never owed...a sin which was never mine to begin with as a child....Lord have Mercy on that soul..

Took forever to find it. I love this song!! It's me. It's every woman. If we could only find a man to feel this way about us.

The sadness I always saw in the eyes of my late sister-in-law Marlene. She was so beautiful inside and out; yet she was so sad. I really miss her!!!!!

I think every woman sees at least a part of, if not all of herself in these words. I just think about the one who put pen to paper and wrote them. How much he must have loved a woman.
