RUSH

- The Wreckers Lyrics

The breakers roar on an unseen shore
In the teeth of a hurricane
Oh,we struggle in vain
A hellish night - a ghostly light
Appears through the driving rain
Salvation in a human chain
All I know is that sometimes you have to be wary
Of a miracle too good to be true
All I know is that sometimes the truth is contrary
Everything in life you thought you knew
All I know is that sometimes you have to be wary
Cause sometimes the target is you

Driven a ground, with that awful sound
Drowned by the cheer from ashore
Oh,we wonder what for
The people swarm through the darking storm
Gather everything they can score
Till their backs won't bear any more
All I know is that sometimes you have to be wary
Of a miracle too good to be true
All I know is that sometimes your truth is contrary
Everything in life you thought you knew
All I know is that sometimes you have to wary
Of a miracle too good to be true
All I know is that you have to wary
Cause sometimes the target is you

The breakers roar, on an unseen shore
In the teeth of an icy grave
In the teeth of an icy grave
The human chain, leaves a bloody stain
Washed away in the pounding waves
Washed away in the pounding waves
All I know is that sometimes you have wary
Of a miracle too good to be true
All I know is that sometimes your truth is contrary
Everything in life you thought you knew
All I know is that sometimes you have to be wary
Cause sometimes the target is you
All I know is that memory can be too much to carry
Striking down like a bolt from the blue
All I know is that sometimes your truth is contrary
Everything in life you thought you knew
All I know is that sometimes your truth is contrary
Everything in life you thought you knew

What is the meaning behind The Wreckers lyrics?

When we dive into the story the lyrics are telling, Rush's song 'The Wreckers' is an allegorical description of life going through a stormy sea where a person would struggle to live. It gives a tip of hiding under apparent perfect situations that could turn out to be deceptive, thus pointing out the unpredictability and occasionally cruel life. The wreckers lyrics mainly highlight contemplation, sadness, conflict, and also provide a nostalgic and social commentary picture. However, the lyrics are at the same time showing the life's trail of caution and skepticism, struggle and survival, and memory and its burdens. The lyrics evoke the themes of battle, menace, and emotional chaos, which might not be appropriate for kids below 13. The metaphor of a 'bloody stain' and mentioning a 'hellish night' and 'icy grave' imply such strong feelings that parental discretion is recommended.

If you read the book that goes along with the album Clockwork Angels, this is a very dark part of the book. And this song has a lot of good points, sometimes you have to worry about things being too good to be true.

You two are clueless. Have you heard the song more than once?... Completely off base... The song is very personal to Peart as are most on the Clockwork Angels album.

It's both a sad and angry song where Neil is beating up on religion. Along the same vein as 'Faithless' from the last album. Great tune as usual, but Neil needs to quit whining. Sounds like a very angry and insecure person inside.
