I belive this song is about the character Mcfly in the movie trilogy Back to the Future and the hardships he goes through during his time traveling experiences.

It was for his cat! Of course Jimmy would name his cat McFly... But yeah. Jimmy left his cat in Brian's care, and Brian, being well, Brian, didn't feed him abnd he died. Hence, Jimmy wrote this song.
