MARMALADE

- Reflections Of My Life Lyrics

The changing of sunlight to moonlight
Reflections of my life, oh how they fill my eyes
The greetings of people in trouble
Reflections of my life, oh how they fill my eyes

All my sorrow, sad tomorrow
Take me back to my old home
All my cryin', feel I'm dyin', dyin'
Take me back, to my old home

I'm changin', arrangin', I'm changin'
I'm changin' everything, ah everything around me
The world is a bad place, a bad place
A terrible place to live, oh but I don't wanna die

All my sorrow, sad tomorrow
Take me back to my old home
All my cryin', feel I'm dyin', dyin'
Take me back, to my old home

All my sorrow, sad tomorrow
Take me back to my old home
All my cryin', feel I'm dyin', dyin'
Take me back, to my old home

Right from the first line, the listener is drawn into the world of the lyricist, who is reflecting on the past. He shows the struggle of a human being who wants to go back to the time when he was happy. The song's lyrics portray the mixed feelings of nostalgia, sorrow, and longing for a place, which are present during the hardships and harsh conditions of life. Besides, the artist's life is full of joys and laughter, nevertheless, the lyrics take the listener through a path of a nostalgic person who desires to go back in time. Still, the beauty of life is also emphasized in the end. Reflections of my life lyrics have a strong theme which is nostalgia, heartbreak, despair, angst and reflection. Moreover, at the same time, it acknowledges the ethnicity of the past and the pain of longing for it, the discontent with the present and the inevitability of change. In addition, the lyrics consist of such ideas as sorrow and longing which may not be very appropriate for the youngest children. Even though there are no apparent mentions of violent, sexual or drug-related acts, the heaviness of the emotions expressed in the lyrics might make it advisable for kids to be accompanied by their parents when listening to the song.

I very much like this song. It could apply to many situations. Meaning is the reflection of our own lives in something that touches us.

I can't disagree with scott... the era of it's writing & performance by the Marmalade lends itself heavily to that. However, short of having been in the Vietnam war, I expect it reflects the deep sense of pain and suffering and an even greater sense of hope in the mindset of the writer - performer.

It seems pretty clear to me, that this song descibes looking into the thoughts and through the eyes of a US soldier fighting in vietnam. What great vocals and an incredible song.
