Father of mine
Tell me where have you been?
You know I just closed by eyes
My whole world disappeared
Father of mine
Take me back to the day
Yeah, when I was still your golden boy
Back before you went away
I remember blue skies walking the block
I loved it when you held me high
I loved to hear you talk
You would take me to the movie
You would take me to the beach
You would take me to a place inside
That's so hard to reach
Oh!
Father of mine
Tell me where did you go?
Yeah, you had the world inside your hand
But you did not seem to know
Father of mine
Tell me what do you see?
When you look back at your wasted life
And you don't see me
I was ten years old
Doin' all that I could
It wasn't easy for me to be a scared white boy
In a black neighborhood
Sometimes you would send me a birthday card
With a five dollar bill
I never understood you then
And I guess I never will
(Then he walked away)
Daddy gave me a name
My daddy gave me a name
(Then he walked away)
Daddy gave me a name
(Then he walked away)
My daddy gave me a name
Oh yeah
Yeah
Daddy gave me a name
Daddy gave me a name
(Then he walked away)
Daddy gave me a name
(Then he walked away)
My daddy gave me a name
Yeah
Yeah
Oh yeah
Father of mine
Tell me where have you been?
Yeah, I just closed by eyes
And the world disappeared
Father of mine
Tell me how do you sleep?
With the children you abandoned
And the wife I saw you beat
I will never be safe
I will never be sane
I will always be weird inside
I will always be lame
Now I'm a grown man
With a child of my own
And I swear, I'll never let her know
All the pain I have known
(Then he walked away)
Daddy gave me a name
(Then he walked away)
My daddy gave me a name
(Then he walked away)
My daddy gave me a name
(Then he walked away)
My daddy gave me a name
(Then he walked away)
Yeah
(Then he walked away)
Yeah
(Then he walked away)
Oh yeah

What is the meaning behind Father Of Mine lyrics?
When we search for the deeper meaning hidden within the lines, “Father of Mine,” a song by Everclear, explores the singer's difficult relationship with his dad who was never around, and his feelings of rejection, perplexity, and yearning for intimacy are portrayed. The singer's feelings are so strong that they compare their very nature to that of the children who suffer from unwanted and broken home, and later on to adults who are unable to cope with their relationships and still cannot understand their parents’ actions. Wounded by the father’s absence during his childhood and being an adult still struggling with the issue, Everclear’s frontman has a lot of pain, scars, and fights inside him and his family to break the cycle of neglect. Father of mine lyrics mainly talk about heartbreak, despair, angst, reflection, and anger. Besides, the song also emphasizes father-son relationship, abandonment, and loss as well as struggle and resilience. The lyrics touch on themes of abandonment, domestic violence, and emotional trauma, which are considered adult themes. The reference to a father beating his wife and the psychological impact of the separation infer that the subject matter may not be appropriate for minors without the supervision of a parent. ✔️

I think this song lets people like us vent. I guess Art's raw pain made it so good, Only someone who's felt that abandonment could connect everyone. My little girl will never know pain like that.

greatest song ever written. I always crank it up real loud, and I don't even generally like loud music.
