CREED

- My Own Prison Lyrics

A court is in session, a verdict is in
No appeal on the docket today
Just my own sin
The walls are cold and pale
The cage made of steel
Screams fill the room
Alone I drop and kneel
Silence now the sound
My breath the only motion around
Demons cluttering around
My face showing no emotion
Shackled by my sentence
Expecting no return
Here there is no penance
My skin begins to burn

(And I said oh) So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh) We're all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one

I hear a thunder in the distance
See a vision of a cross
I feel the pain that was given
On that sad day of loss
A lion roars in the darkness
Only he holds the key
A light to free me from my burden
And grant me life eternally

Should have been dead
On a Sunday morning
Banging my head
No time for mourning
Ain't got no time{repeat}

(And I said oh) So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh) We're all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one

[Guitar break]

I cry out to God
Seeking only his decision
Gabriel stands and confirms
I've created my own prison
I cry out to God
Seeking only his decision
Gabriel stands and confirms
I've created my own prison

(And I said oh) So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh) We're all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one

(And I said oh) So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
((And I said oh) We're all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one) I created I created
My own prison

Should've been dead on a Sunday morning
banging my head
No time for mourning
Ain't got no time

What is the meaning behind My Own Prison lyrics?

When we reflect on what the artist might have meant, Creed's 'My Own Prison' is a composition that revolves around the themes of guilt, isolation, and self-inflicted pain. The words of the song reflect a situation in which the person feels imprisoned by his or her own actions and emotions, thus making him or her to feel like a captive and wanting to be free again. The allusions to maintaining one's dignity in spite of the inner chaos, and looking for help from a divine power, bring out the conflict and longing for release from the burdens one has placed upon oneself. The lyrics of My own prison mainly depict despair, angst, reflection, solitude, and spirituality. Nevertheless, the song portrays the power of struggle and confinement, inner turmoil and resilience, and spiritual seeking and redemption. There are personal hardship, emotional suffering, and allusions to death and imprisonment in the lyrics, which might not be appropriate for kids aged 13 years and below. The reference to 'banging my head' along with the dark atmosphere of the song indicates a kind of intensity that calls for parental guidance.

I lost my parents four months apart from one another due to heroin overdoses. I imagine this is how my mother felt when I heard this song. She loved God but struggled with drugs. Miss them so much.

Demons who stand around screaming have no power to condemn him to the sentence of a lifetime in his own prison. Once he cries to God, the Lion can change his life when He roars and light charges in.:D
