Born Aline Christophe on April 20, 1972, in Saint-Claude, Guadeloupe , Lady Laistee moved to the Paris region (mainland France) to be with her family at the age of five. Her father was an alcoholic who beat his wife; he even went so far as to rape Aline in a parking lot in Sarcelles when she was 16. She later told her school counselor, and he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. In the early 1990s, she was swept up in the hip-hop wave that was taking France by storm. Her name, Laistee, is a play on the French slang word "stylée" (stylish).
