ZAC BROWN BAND

- Jolene Lyrics

Cocaine flame in my bloodstream
Sold my coat when I hit Spokane
Bought myself a hard pack of cigarettes
In the early mornin' rain

Lately my hands they don't feel like mine
My eyes been stung with dust and blind
Held you in my arms one time
Lost you just the same

Jolene
Well, I ain't about to go straight, it's too late
And I found myself face down in the ditch
Booze in my hair, blood on my lips

A picture of you holding a picture of me
In the pocket of my blue jeans
Still don't know what love means
Still don't know what love means

Jolene
Jolene

It's been so long since I've seen your face
Or felt a part of this human race
I've been living out of this here suitcase
For way too long

Man needs something he can hold onto
Nine pound hammer or a woman like you
Either one of them things will do

Jolene
Well, I ain't about to go straight, it's too late
And I found myself face down in the ditch
Booze in my hair, blood on my lips

A picture of you holding a picture of me
In the pocket of my blue jeans
Still don't know what love means
Still don't know what love means

Jolene
Jolene

Cocaine flame in my bloodstream
Sold my coat when I hit Spokane

What is the meaning behind Jolene lyrics?

When we consider what the writer meant by those haunting lines, Zac Brown Band's 'Jolene' is about a person who is trying to get rid of their addiction and is also losing someone they love. The metaphors 'cocaine flame in my bloodstream' and 'face down in the ditch' are used to express the person's despair and confusion very deeply. The themes of the song are mainly those of angst, heartbreak, despair, reflection, and solitude. Besides, it also highlights the issues of addiction, lost love, desperation, and the quest for meaning. The lyrics reference drug use (cocaine), violence (blood on lips), and alcohol consumption (booze in hair), which are pretty much the same things that earned an R rating. It is considered that these themes and depictions are too strong for the younger ones and the older teens would need to be supervised by their parents.

This song got me through a break up... and i still dont know what love means... Zacs version speaks to me more than Ray Lamontagne.

The Dolly Parton song is not the same Jolene as ZBB or Rays. Totally different song with the same title. Cake also has a song called Jolene, unrelated.

Good song regardless of who sings it! Just have to admit, ZBB does the best thus far. Not sure you can call this country anymore! Seems most artist can go either way!!!

Wow people! Music is not going to touch everybody the same. I love ZBB's Jolene and I never heard any other version. That doesn'y mean its better or worse. But I can't stop playing it over and over.

I like both songs with my name in them, but I gotta admit this is a great song. My parents named me for the Dolly one, but I like ZBB's a lot better.

haha, charlotte hit it on the head!! ZBB does an awesome job on this, but when ray sings, the room turns sideways, melts, and you can't get out of the way.
