- Lateralus Lyrics

Black then white are all I see in my infancy.
red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
lets me see.
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn beyond the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition, missing opportunities and I must
Feed my will to feel my moment drawing way outside the lines.

Black then white are all I see in my infancy.
red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
lets me see there is so much more
and beckons me to look through to these infinite possibilities.
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn outside the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition leaving all these opportunities behind.
Feed my will to feel this moment urging me to cross the line.
Reaching out to embrace the random.
Reaching out to embrace whatever may come.

I embrace my desire to
feel the rhythm, to feel connected
enough to step aside and weep like a widow
to feel inspired, to fathom the power,
to witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain,
to swing on the spiral
of our divinity and still be a human.

With my feet upon the ground I lose myself
between the sounds and open wide to suck it in.
I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out.
I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.

Spiral out. Keep going...

What is the meaning behind Lateralus lyrics?

When we take a closer look to the meaning, Tool's 'Lateralus' is a musical piece that discusses the idea of perception expansion and invites the listener to take on the randomness and the infinite possibilities that come with it. It also talks about human and divine aspects in a person and indicates this through an outward spiral as one goes in quest of new experiences in unexplored areas. The lyrics of Lateralus are mostly around the themes of inspiring, reflecting, being spiritual, empowering, and adventuring. Simultaneously, the song highlights self-discovery and exploration, the mind-body battle, and the acceptance of desire and inspiration. It is true that there are some abstract themes and ideas in the lyrics that might call for parental approval for the younger ones, but still, the song does not make any explicit references to violence, sex, or substance abuse. The language used is pretty much suitable for the audience, but may be difficult to some of the younger ones regarding the themes.

It was written in Fibonacci sequence. Do with that what you will. Analyze it enough to realize that there's nothing more to.

None of you know what this song is about, stop thinking you do. Debating the meaning of lyrics is foolish and pointless. Enjoy the song. It means what it means... to you.

I think y'all look to far into things. Tool is a band that makes music for themselves. You can take their music any which way. One of the most complicated bands to ever surface. But the absolute best.
