You couldn't wait for answers
You just had to try those wings
And all your happy-ever-afters...
They didn't mean a thing
So I'm not gonna try at all
To keep you from the flame
Just remember not to call...my name...
When you cry wolf
Once too often
You cry wolf
No, I won't come knockin'
You cry wolf
I won't hear you anymore
If you start to stumble
If you start to crack
If you're feeling humble...
Don't look back
When you cry wolf
Once too often
You cry wolf
No, I won't come knockin'
You cry wolf
I won't hear you anymore
You can try but you can't get me...
Into the fire
'Cause I'm all out of sympathy...
And, baby, I can't walk this wire
Find yourself somebody new
To catch you when you fall
'Cause I got just one thing to say to you
And, baby, that's all...
When you cry wolf
Once too often
You cry wolf
No, I won't come knockin'
You cry wolf
I won't hear you...
You cry wolf
Well, once too often
You cry wolf
No, I won't come knockin'
You cry wolf
I won't see you...
So you cry wolf
Once too often
Cry wolf
On no, I won't come knockin'
If you cry wolf...
I won't see you...
'Cause you cried wolf...
It is first released in 1989 as part of Stevie Nicks's album "The Other Side of the Mirror" which includes 12 tracks in total. This song is the 7th track on this album. ✔️
What is the meaning behind Cry Wolf lyrics?
When we look deeper into its meaning, in "Cry Wolf," one of the songs by Stevie Nicks, the text paints a picture of a person who expresses deceitful ways of getting attention or help, but finally, the hero decides to let their false alarms and not to be misled anymore. The term 'crying wolf' is an analogy for making untrue statements or asking for help in an untruthful way, leading to a gradual loss of trust and credibility. The lyrics of cry wolf mainly highlight feelings of angst, heartbreak, despair, empowerment, and anger. At the same time, the song expresses the necessity of betrayal and trust issues as well as self-empowerment and moving on. The lyrics include themes of emotional suffering and personal boundaries, which might be inappropriate for very young children unless accompanied by their parents. Nevertheless, there is no use of profanity, no violence, nor sexual content that would require a higher rating. ✔️

Like most of Stevie Nicks' love songs, just like most of Lindsey Buckingham's, they write about each other, and the failure of their relationship. Lindsey's usually tend to be angrier, e.g. Go Your Own Way. Cry Wolf is one of Stevie's rare said straight out songs to Lindsey, clearly telling him that the fame, the money and the groupies went to his head, and that because of his betrayal of her (which I think is not only his cheating on her at all, but his cheating on her after all that she did for him: waitressing and cleaning people's houses while he looked for record deals and went on the road with other bands.) She's telling him there's no hope for them any more, ever, so don't even ask. But I believe that eventually changed, except they were both too proud, Lindsey was far too angry, and jealous of Stevie's success as a solo artist. And ultimately, when I believe their love for each other finally surfaced again, and they might have made it work, despite all the lost years, Lindsey's girlfriend, with whom he'd had one child, intentionally conceived again, forcing him to marry her.
