MICHAEL MARTIN MURPHEY

Wildfire Lyrics

She comes down from Yellow Mountain
On a dark flat land she rides
On a pony she named Wildfire
With a whirlwind by her side
On a cold Nebraska night

Oh, they say she died one winter
When there came a killing frost
And the pony she named Wildfire
Busted down his stall
In a blizzard he was lost

She ran calling Wildfire
She ran calling Wildfire
She ran calling Wildfire

By the dark of the moon I planted
But there came an early snow
There's been a hoot owl howlin' by my window now
For six nights in a row
She's coming for me I know
And on Wildfire we're both gonna go

We'll be riding Wildfire
She ran calling Wildfire
She ran calling Wildfire

On Wildfire we're going to ride her
We're gonna leave sod bustin' behind
Get these hard times right on out of our minds
Riding Wildfire

I only recently first heard this song, played it on my radio station; and before it was finished I was weeping. This has to be the most beautiful tune, and such haunting lyrics. Thanks for posting them. I'll love it forever. And perhaps one day I'll find Wildfire myself...

This is a beautiful & touching song. It tells a story of loss, & undying love. The man has loved her & waited patiently for her. Their love had no bounds, they loved in life & in death. I hope I will have been as patient & faithful when my love comes for me. Its a story of everafter.

this song means alot for me as iv had horses most of my life, my idea of the song is, even if all is bad, there is still hope, in every way shape and form. :)

if one simply reads this its a very creepy poem about how a man will find solace in death song form its about not losing hope thats what i got anyway weird how a singer changes the meaning

My Mother worked well past school hours when I was a little Girl. This song got me through alot of times I couldn't figure at that age. To this day I still wonder as if I were looking for Wildfire.

This song ALWAYS makes me cry. I've never had a pony but I've had that unconditional love that she has with hers And I hope to someday have the love He had with her One that lasts more then a lifetime

Whoever thinks it is horrible, they are. This song is so touching that those who hate it must hate horses. If you have something mean to say, don't say it.

Always loved this song since I was 16 and still hope to one day name a horse Wildfire. I think hope is in the afterlife suggested by the words.
