MICHAEL CARD

Joseph's Song Lyrics

Michael Card
Verse 1
How could it be
This baby in my arms,
Sleeping now, so peacefully?
"The Son of God," the angel said,
How could it be?

Verse 2
Lord I know, He's not my own
Not of my flesh, not of my bone.
Still Father let this baby be
The son of my love.

Chorus
Father show me where I fit into this plan of Yours,
How can a man be father to the Son of God?
Lord, for all my life I've been a simple carpenter,
How can I raise a King, How can I raise a King?

Verse 3
He looks so small, His face and hands so fair,
And when He cries the sun just seems to disappear.
But when He laughs, it shines again,
How could it be?

chorus,
Verse 1

This song always brings tears to my eyes! Joseph asks How can a simple carpenter be father to the Son of God? So moving, everyone really loves it and is moved by it. A beautiful, beautiful song!

I had the priveldge of singing this song at a Christmas concert. The congregation's reaction was spectacular and everyone could relate the the emotions felt by Joseph.

This is my most favorite song of Christmas and I reflect on how Joseph must have felt being instantly put in this role of fatherhood. He didn't run away - He rather accepted it with dignity & Grace.
