LEROY CARR

- Naptown Blues Lyrics

Nobody knows old Naptown : baby like I do
If you will stop and listen : I will tell you a thing or
two

When you get lonesome : and want to have some fun
You just grab a train : and try old Naptown some

When you get to Naptown : the blues won't last very long
Because they have their pleasure : and they sure do carry
on

I would rather be in Naptown : than any place I know
I can get me a ticket : and stop by the *Walter* show

I'm going back to Naptown : baby don't you want to go
Because there ain't nobody : knows old Naptown like I
know

The correct lyric is: "I can get me a ticket and stop by the *Walker show," a reference to the Madam Walker Theatre on Indiana Avenue. The Walker Theatre was opened in Naptown just a year or so prior to Carr and Blackwell's recording of this song.
