BRETT ELDREDGE

- Raymond Lyrics

I work down at Ashberry Hills
Minimum wage, but it pays the bills
Cleaning floors and leading hymns on Sunday

Katherine Davis, room 303
Sweetest soul you ever could meet
I bring her morning coffee everyday

Chorus:
She calls me Raymond
She thinks I'm her son
Tells me get washed up for supper
before your daddy gets home
She goes on about the weather
how she can't believe it's already 1943
She calls me Raymond, and that's all right by me

She talks about clothes on the line in the summer air
Christmas morning and Thanksgiving prayer
Stories of a family that I never had
Sometimes I find myself wishing I'd been there

Chorus:
When she calls me Raymond
She thinks I'm her son
Tells me get washed up for supper
before your daddy gets home
She goes on about the weather
how she can't believe it's already 1943
She calls me Raymond, and that's all right by me

There's a small white cross in Arlington
Reads Raymond Davis '71
Until she can see his face again
I'm gonna fill in the best I can

Chorus:
When she calls me Raymond
She thinks I'm her son
Tells me get washed up for supper
before your daddy gets home
She goes on about the weather
how she can't believe it's already 1943
She calls me Raymond, and that's all right by me
She calls me Raymond, and that's all right by me

What is the meaning behind Raymond lyrics?

When we explore how the lyrics were meant to make us feel, the tune 'Raymond' represented by Brett Eldredge narrates a plot of a helper who gets an exclusive tie with an old lady titled Katherine Davis who has the helper mistaken for her son Raymond. The helper takes this role very much to heart, giving service and companionship to Katherine by playing along with her recollections and tales, though they are not kin. The lyrics of the song bring the topics of kindness, understanding, and the strength of human connection even in the situations of old age and mental decline to the forefront. Apart from these issues, the lyrics of Raymond mostly talk about love, reflection, heartbreak, nostalgia, and joy. On the other hand, the piece of music emphasizes the aspects of identity and belonging, nostalgia and memory, and care and compassion. The words present a story of a person doing a low-paying job and meeting an old woman who thinks he is her son. The themes are pure-hearted, concentrating on family, care, and nostalgia, with no offensive language, violence, or adult content.

This song nails that special human moment, the emotion, the story line, reality that makes a good song a great song...bravo; but who really wrote it? Did Brett with some help, or Truman with Brett's revision? Who lived or at least imagined this moment? I want to know him. As a songwriter, I want to communicate with him. How do I do that?

It's a very beautiful song. It makes me cry everytime I hear it because my mom and grandma both were named Catherine Davis with a C instead of a K. The same situation happened with my grandma. :(
