BLACK CROWES

- She Talks To Angels Lyrics

She never mentions the word addiction
In certain company
Yes, she'll tell you she's an orphan
After you meet her family

She paints her eyes as black as night now
Pulls those shades down tight
Yeah, she gives a smile when the pain come
The pain gonna make everything alright

Says she talks to angels
They call her out by her name
Oh yeah, she talks to angels
Says they call her out by her name

She keeps a lock of hair in her pocket
She wears a cross around her neck
Yes, the hair is from a little boy
And the cross is someone she has not met
Not yet

Says she talks to angels
Says they all know her name
Oh yeah, she talks to angels
Says they call her out by her name
She don't know no lover
None that I ever seen
Yeah, to her that ain't nothin'
But to me, yeah me
Means everything

She paints her eyes as black as night now
She pulls those shades down tight
Oh yeah, there's a smile when the pain comes
The pain gonna make everything alright
Alright, yeah heah

She talks to angels
Says they call her out by her name
Oh, yeah, heah, angels
Call her out by her name
Oh, ooh, oh, oh, angels
They call her out by her name

Oh, oh, oh, she talks to angels
They call her out
Yeah, ee, eah, eah, eah, eah
Call her out
Don't you know that they
Call her out by her name?

When we interpret the meaning being expressed, the Black Crowes' song 'She Talks to Angels' narrates a woman's life, who tries to handle her hardships by a spiritual connection that appears to be the case. The lyrics talking to angels and finding comfort in pain indicate a stronger emotional conflict that she is trying to escape into a place where she believes to be understood and safe, even if she has not found true love or satisfaction in her reality. The lyrics of She talks to angels highlight mainly angst, spirituality, heartbreak, despair, and solitude. The song, on the one hand, brings out the importance of struggles with identity and belonging, pain coping, and spiritual connection. The lyrics reflect themes of pain, loss, and mental health, and thus may not be appropriate for the very young without a parent's supervision. True, there are no direct mentions of violence, drug use, or sex, but the strong emotional content and mentioning of addiction and personal struggles imply that the material might require parental guidance.

I am not sure you would want this played at your funeral. It is about a drug addict that has lost everything. Her son, her family and religion. One of my very favorites, but very haunting.
