Yellow Ledbetter Lyrics

Unsealed, on a porch a letter sat
Then you said, "I wanna leave it again"
Once I saw her on a beach of weathered sand
And on the sand I wanna leave her again

On a weekend I wanna wish it all away, yeah
And they called and I said that I'll go
And I said that I'll call out again
And the reason I ought ta leave her calm, I know
I said, "I don't know whether I'm the boxer or the bag"

Oh yeah, can you see them, out on the porch?
Yeah, but they don't wave
I see them 'round the front way, yeah
And I know, and I know I don't wanna stay

Make me cry

I see oh, I don't know why there's something else
I want to, wanna drum it all away
I said, "I don't, I don't know whether I was the boxer or the bag"

Oh yeah, can you see them, out the on porch?
Yeah, but they don't wave
I see them 'round the front way
And I know, and I know I don't want to stay at all
I don't want to stay
I don't want to stay
I don't want to stay
I don't, I don't want to stay

I said I don't know if he was in a box or a bag. Song is about a friend of Eddie's whose last name is Ledbetter. His brother was killed in the gulph war.Yellow letter's were sent to families of K.I.A.

I don't even care what the meaning is. To me the mystery of the words is what adds to it's greatness. However, sometimes we all have those moments where we don't know if we are the boxer or the bag!

Per Eddie it's about a 'crunchy looking' friend of his who went for a walk after receiving a letter his brother was killed in action and saluted a flag and waived at people sitting on their porch...

My favorite part about this song is that you can't understand what he is saying....it is left up to the listener to interpret what the song means therefore it's diff for everyone....genius

Any1 who has the Lost Dogs CD can read the insert and they will find Mike Mcready's comments that Drew pointed out. Eddie made up the lyrics on the spot, but he does change it up now and then as well

The only intelligible version of this song i've ever heard was from the Tibetan freedom concert live cd.

Saw them at Hyde Park this year and it was a dream come true. There was electricity in the air when they played this.
