Marissa Bregman Lyrics

It makes sense that Marissa Bregman would title her first album “Parade.” There’s a festive quality to many of the songs, and a stripped down approach to the instrumentation which includes handclaps, whistles and kazoos, or the odd voice standing in for a bass as it does in “Love You Too much.” Her native New York City is the setting, and a character in many of the songs, in subtle and not so subtle ways. In “Skyscraper” Bregman wonders “can you reach my heart, can you reach the stars?” Subways and taxis whiz by and you can sometimes literally hear the sounds of the streets.
