Light bulbs are blinking without reason
and gas bills must be in season, can't
open them quick enough, There's a strange
squeaking in the walls and mildew growing
in the hall, can't seem to care enough.
This is my one and only offer, some fives
and tens in a sock drawer, but never enough.
And some knowledge that we might be forever
poor forevermore. I can promise you a great
life, you'll never be let down: full of low
expectations, diminished motivations, defeatist
approach to everything, unable to bank on
anything, excusing it all as reasoning.
