The Christmas Shoes Lyrics

It was almost Christmas time, there I stood in another line
Trying to buy that last gift or two, not really in the Christmas mood
Standing right in front of me was a little boy waiting anxiously
Pacing 'round like little boys do
And in his hands he held a pair of shoes

And his clothes were worn and old, he was dirty from head to toe
And when it came his time to pay
I couldn't believe what I heard him say

Chorus:
Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight

He counted pennies for what seemed like years
Then the cashier said, "Son, there's not enough here"
He searched his pockets frantically
Then he turned and he looked at me
He said Mama made Christmas good at our house
Though most years she just went without
Tell me Sir, what am I going to do,
Somehow I've got to buy her these Christmas shoes

So I laid the money down, I just had to help him out
And I'll never forget the look on his face when he said
Mama's gonna look so great

Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight

Bridge:
I knew I'd caught a glimpse of heaven's love
As he thanked me and ran out
I knew that God had sent that little boy
To remind me what Christmas is all about

Repeat Chorus

Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight

I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight.

Good words, PDUB. +50 RESPECT. I don't know anybody who this song may pertain to. Although it does make me cry as well the first time I hear it every year. In my opinion, it is about not being in the christmas spirit and eventually you find your meaning to Christmas. Everyone has a different reason to be involved in Christmas in a positive way.

I like most of the lines in this song. To me this song is about the haves and have not of society, and not really the true meaning of Christmas, people write foolishness all the time and make millions.

I really love this song because it is so beautiful and peaceful it tells the true meaning of Christmas (well the meaning to the artist) but it is sad and I sang this song for my grandma when I was 10 and she was 65. I am very sick now and my grandaughter sang it to me my doctor says I only have until Xmas

Truemeaning, you don't understand. It's not just about Jesus, though that is a lot of it since I'm Christian. Christmas is about love, giving freely and not expecting anything in return. It's about spending time with your family and friends and appreciating the time you have together. Like the little boy in the song, you don't know how much time you have with them. So the next time you call it nonsense, watch a little orphan boy's face light up when you give them the one thing they've always wanted. I do it every year and boy, it feels really good. I might not be an adult yet, I know that that's what this song is trying to say.

@PDUB: Pagan religions (also Paganism) refers to a group of historical polytheistic religious traditions, primarily those of cultures known to the classical world. In a wider sense, it has also been understood to include any non-Abrahamic, folk, or ethnic religion. The term pagan was historically used as one of several pejorative Christian counterparts to "gentile" (גוי / נכרי) as used in the Hebrew Bible, comparable to "infidel" or "heretic". Modern ethnologists often avoid this broad usage in favor of more specific and less potentially offensive terms such as polytheism, shamanism, pantheism, or animism when referring to traditional or historical faiths.

I am a 19 year old mom of an 18 months old and i will have to say i disagree with the person saying this song is just about presents and not family. Last time i checked a son and mom is family he wanted to make his mom happy before she went home to be with God for eternity. I usually never comment or post anything, but this song is one of my favorites and i cry every time i hear it or sing it. i am learning it to sing at church. But just remember the meaning of christmas is christ and he gave his life for us so that little boy was giving to his mom before she left to the one that Christmas is all about :)

@TrueMeaning - you might want to educate yourself a bit more in historical timelines before making those kinds of blind claims. If your argument that pagan mythologies predated Christian teachings and therefore Christianity borrowed from them is true, then it must also be truth that the pagan religions borrowed from the Jewish religion because it is older than they are! Given that all of the Christian themes are found in the Old Testament and the Old Testament was begun around 2000 B.C. and completed around 400 B.C., we can then conclude that these pagan religions actually borrowed from Jewish ideas found in the Old Testament.

Furthermore, those who wrote about Jesus in the New Testament were Jews (or under the instruction of Jews) who were devoted to the legitimacy and inspiration of the Old Testament scriptures and possessed a strong disdain for pagan religions. It would have been blasphemous for them to incorporate pagan sources into what they saw as the fulfillment of the sacred Old Testament scriptures concerning the Messiah. Also, since they were writing about Jesus, they were writing based upon what He taught: truth, love, honesty, integrity, etc. Why then would they lie and make up stories and suffer great persecution, hardships, ridicule, arrest, beatings, and death all for known lies and fabrications from paganism? It doesn't make sense.

Nice try though sport ;-). I'll be sure to pray for your soul.....

I love all the nonsense being spouted about this song describing the true meaning of Christmas.

You want to know the true meaning of Christmas? Midwinter pagan celebration, nothing more. Giving the sun a hint that it's time to start putting in a decent day's work again.

Everything else associated from the nativity story was stolen more or less wholesale from the story of Mithra, an older Persian deity.

After reading the lyrics to this song I had to reach for a bucket to be copiously sick into.

At best it's laughable schmaltz, at its worst, nothing more than a cynical attempt to tug at the heart strings of people who are keen on Jesus.
