JOHNNY CASH

Hurt Lyrics

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything

What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar's chair

Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here

What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

You're all musically ignorant. The whole album is covers. Noone's moaning about Rusty Cage by Soundgarden or Rowboat by Beck. That's what a real artist does when he covers a song is make it his own. 1

this song is just about life. every one will go away in the end and lots of people want to restart but he is saying that you cant and you just have to live with your mistakes.

Why are you people talking about what Cash was writing about? For the millionth time, Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails wrote this song. Cash did a great cover, but Reznor deserves credit.

To me the song is actually about regret - If you take the song in its entirety I would say its about a woman who left and he turned to drugs to cope with the loss

Trent never said he liked JC's version better than his, he did say that JC had turned it into a totally different good song- but he admitted the first time he heard it he didnt like the way it sounded

Of course it's about drugs. Of course it's about loss. No, he doesn't want to re-live his life over again. He wants to go a million miles away so nobody knows him. Clean slate...new beginning

the song was written by trent and his struggle with life, john incorperated into his own life, if you watch june as he sang you can feel the sorrow.even john felt it. a true artist can do this

THe way Johnny Cash interprets it the song seems more about loss, the human condition, and how no matter how much you have it won't last in the end.
