How To Save A Life Lyrics

Step one, you say, ?We need to talk?
He walks, you say, ?Sit down, it's just a talk?
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through

Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
You begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Let him know that you know best
?Cause after all, you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence

Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to God he hears you
And pray to God he hears you

And where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed

He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

How to save a life
How to save a life

Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

How to save a life
How to save a life

Message to the world: if you are grieving because a loved one commited suicide, you are not alone. Love at all times. Remember that, even when people bring you down, there is someone who loves you.God

The first verse is about him having a conversation with a boy who is struggling with addiction. The second is in the perspective of the man talking to the child. I really love this song and is speaks to me in a way no other song does

I love this song. I think about my best friend when i hear it. She cuts her wrists because she feels like she has no purpose in the world. She is trying to save herself for her friends, not for herself. Personally, i think she just wants attention. I love her anyways though.

Call me stupid but I thought this song was about a relationship. It makes me think of my friend Victoria, I was there for her through a breakup and a lot more and became real good friends. Then someday we stopped talking and now rarely do and I feel like I did something. God I'm so in love with her

It really gives a meaning to bullying. Because you feel like you can't live a second longer but at the same time you cna't bear to leave your friends and family. This song perfectly shows that. We need to not only save ourselves we need to save the bullied. Oh and SHUT UP 40.

I read in an interview that this song is about a kid who was struggling with addiction and other stuff and was slowly dying and it's like him looking back on his life.... This song has so much meaning

I lost an uncle to drugs. He wasn't even 30. I never got to know him and everyone tried to help him. This song makes me think of him. I miss you Uncle Mark. I love you even though I never knew you.
