Nothing in the world could bother me
'cos I was living in a world of ecstasy.
But now you're gone I'm just a daydreamer
I'm walking in the rain
chasing after rainbows I may never find again
Life is much too beautiful to live it all alone
Oh how much I need someone to call my very own.
Now the summer's over
and I find myself alone
with only memories of you
I was so in love I couldn't see
'cos I was living in a world of make believe.
But now you're gone I'm just a daydreamer
I'm walking in the rain
chasing after rainbows I may never find again
Life is much too beautiful to live it all alone
Oh how much I need someone to call my very own.
I'm just a daydreamer
I'm walking in the rain
chasing after rainbows I may never find again

What is the meaning behind Daydreamer lyrics?
When we try to understand the message behind it, David Cassidy's 'Daydreamer' brings back the memories of a love that had huge impact on life but now it is over and the singer feels like a ghost; a lost soul craving the unique bond again. The lyrics show a longing and a reminiscence, with the use of such metaphors as 'chasing after rainbows' which stands for a quest not only for something beautiful but also for something very difficult to get, thus, the love is being depicted as beautiful while the sadness of its absence is being indirectly expressed. The Daydreamer lyrics indicate mainly the themes of love, heartbreak, nostalgia, reflection, and despair. In parallel, the song also accentuates the role of nostalgia, loss, loneliness, longing, dreams, and escape. The lyrics touch on the topics of nostalgia, love, and longing and do not contain any obscenity, violence, or adult content. They can be listened to by everyone. ✔️

Actually, unbeknownst to everyone, I was successful at first getting the song recorded by the late, great Paul Davis (writer and singer of legendary hit..."I Go Crazy"), which represented the second time I was able to bring this great songwriter and artist a song that he felt surpassed his own writing and record it.....The first time was the Graham Nash song "Simple Man".....Graham being another great writer and artist whom I was able to work with while being at Warner Bros. Music and being one of the legendary "Warner Raiders" !

Trivia:
South American songwriter, Terry Dempsey was at the 1973 Tokyo TV Song festival. where "Vicky" a song Dempsey wrote had been chosen to represent Johannesburg.
Artie Wayne (Dir. of Creative Services at Warner Brothers) wanted to hear more songs. Dempsey gave him a demo of 'DAYDREAMER'. Wayne flipped & brought it back to the states.
Someone on Wayne's team (Stephen Craig Aristei) got the song into the hands of David Cassidy within a few days ... and as they say the rest is history.
A multi million selling record worldwide it became one of David Cassidy's biggest hits.
