CHARLES TRENET

La Mer Lyrics

La mer
Qu'on voit danser le long des golfes clairs
A des reflets d'argent
La mer
Des reflets changeants
Sous la pluie

La mer
Au ciel d'ete confond
Ses blancs moutons
Avec les anges si purs
La mer bergere d'azur
Infinie
Voyez
Pres des etangs
Ces grands roseaux mouilles
Voyez
Ces oiseaux blancs
Et ces maisons brouillees

La mer
Les a berces
Le long des golfes clairs
Et d'une chanson d'amour
La mer
A berce mon coeur pour la vie

I first heard this song from the movie French Kiss. Kevin Kline sang it during the end credits in perfect French! Also heard Kevin Spacey's rendition. It's great too!!

Het einde van de herhaling past niet bij het lied, die laatste regels zouden zonder de uithalen gezongen moeten worden.

One of the first records I ever heard on an old wind-up gramophone. Used to play it all the time. alternating with 'How high the moon' and Dietrich's 'Lilli Marlene'!

This piece has a great tune and beautiful words. It has beauty - something entirely missing from modern pop songs. Well done, Mr. Trenet!
