CHARLES TRENET

La Mer Lyrics

La mer
Qu'on voit danser
le long des golfes clairs
A des reflets d'argent
La mer
Des reflets changeants
Sous la pluie

La mer
Au ciel d'été
confond ses blancs moutons
Avec les anges si purs
La mer
bergère d'azur
Infinie
Voyez
Près des étangs
Ces grands roseaux mouillés
Voyez
Ces oiseaux blancs
Et ces maisons rouillées

La mer
Les a bercés
Le long des golfes clairs
Et d'une chanson d'amour
La mer
A bercé mon coeur
Pour la vie

This was a 'pop' song when I was at high school learning French. Our French teacher taught us the words, very progressive of her back in the 1950's!

This song is so iconic to the seaside of France, I just can't help but love it. Especially since it was in Mr Bean's Holiday.

I first heard this song from the movie French Kiss. Kevin Kline sang it during the end credits in perfect French! Also heard Kevin Spacey's rendition. It's great too!!

One of the first records I ever heard on an old wind-up gramophone. Used to play it all the time. alternating with 'How high the moon' and Dietrich's 'Lilli Marlene'!
