This is the best English music I've ever listened to also I hope that it happens one day and I'm sure you're not the only one who wants to live in that beautiful world!

World peace, sharing, openness of ideas, freedom, happiness. If you hate this song because it goes against your religion, you are part of the problem that John was addressing.

Truly, John Lennon was & will always be regarded as one of the greatest singers & songwriters to ever walk the face of the Earth. His memorial in Central Park is beautiful & greatly deserved.
a great singer February 21, 2012-16:16
I think it means that the whole world can come together to like stop hunger or stop wars. It means that even though we all have our differences we can come together and help each other.:)

This song has many mixed meanings, but I think the main meaning is that if we try,(which were not) then there can be world peace in many different ways. Long live Lennon in our hearts souls and music!
all you need is love July 25, 2011-21:59
this song is amazing, so powerful. without possesion there would be no greed, without greed there would be no war. we would be equal, living in a peaceful world without ignorance and hate.

the second line is wrong. it should read 'no hell below us, above us only sky' not 'no people below us'

We played this every Christmas season. My X started this tradition moons ago and carried it to our daughters generation ....imagine if we all really could. What a simple world we live in but the song sure gives me hope
