For You Lyrics

All I saw was smoke and fire
I didn't feel a thing
But suddenly I was rising higher
And I felt like I just made
The biggest mistake
When I thought about my unborn child
When I thought about my wife
And the answer rang out clear
From somewhere up above
No greater gift has man
Than to lay down his life for love

And I wonder, would I give my life
Could I make that sacrifice
If it came down to it
Could I take the bullet, I would
Yes I would, for you

Maybe you don't understand
I don't understand it all myself
But there's a brother on my left and another on my right
And in his pocket just like mine
He's got a photograph
And they're waiting for him back home
It's weighing on my mind
I'm not trying to be a hero
I don't wanna die
But right now in this moment, you don't think twice

I wonder, would I give my life
Could I make that sacrifice
If it came down to it
Could I take the bullet, I would
Yes I would

You don't think about right
You don't think about wrong
You just do what you gotta do, to defend your own
I'd do the same
For you
Yes I would

I would give my life
I would make that sacrifice
Cause if it came down to it
Could I take a bullet
For you
Yes I would

I'd do it for you
I'd do it for you
I'd do it for you
Yes I would

My husband of 8 years is currently deployed performing Explosive Ordnance Disposal. It is absolutely heart breaking to be here without him and hear this song. But with that being said, I am incredibly proud to be his wife and will love and support him. Lord I pray you watch over him and our girl.

I was looking at the lyrics and realized how it is conected to the birth of Jesus. Mary wasn't bearing the son of God so she could be remembered as a hero, but to do God's will. She sacrificed her life for God. She didn't think twice about bearing Jesus.

My father was killed flying a B-25 in WWII. I was born 7 days before he died. I have 168 letters he wrote home until his death. This song captures every one of his words and feelings. I have typed them into a journal. Would love to share this with Keith.

Just a week ago I had a friend who died in a home invasion where he walked in to see 8 off his friends being held at gunpoint. He tried to reach for the gun and the thieving coward ended his life. He was a true hero and this song hit me hard today when I heard it. RIP sweet angel.

The meaning this song has for me is not only about the military heroes but also for our own heroes here at home, firefighters, police, and emergency medical workers. They all put their lives at risk for others every day. Thank God for these people. I am one of them.
