IMAGINE DRAGONS

Monster Lyrics

[Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons]
Ever since I could remember,
Everything inside of me,
Just wanted to fit in (oh oh oh oh)
I was never one for pretenders,
Everything I tried to be,
Just wouldn't settle in (oh oh oh oh)

If I told you what I was,
Would you turn your back on me?
And if I seem dangerous,
Would you be scared?
I get the feeling just because,
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
If this problem lies in me

I'm only a man with a candle to guide
me,
I'm taking a stand to escape what's
inside me.
A monster, a monster,
I've turned into a monster,
A monster, a monster,
And it keeps getting stronger.

Can I clear my conscience,
If I'm different from the rest,
Do I have to run and hide? (oh oh oh
oh)
I never said that I want this,
This burden came to me,
And it's made it's home inside (oh oh
oh oh)

If I told you what I was,
Would you turn your back on me?
And if I seem dangerous,
Would you be scared?
I get the feeling just because,
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
If this problem lies in me

I'm only a man with a candle who's
got me,
I'm taking a stand to escape what's
inside me.
A monster, a monster,
I've turned into a monster,
A monster, a monster,
And it keeps getting stronger.

I'm only a man with a candle who's
got me,
I'm taking a stand to escape what's
inside me.
A monster, a monster,
I've turned into a monster,
A monster, a monster,
And it keeps getting stronger.

I think that this song is about a person who always was told that they were different or an outcast and therefore could never become anything or fit in, but then they find out that they aren't and just keep becoming stronger and proving people wrong.

to me, this song symbolizes how human try to fit it, but can't, because they keep on getting rejected. so now, they have this monster or demon in them, telling them to be someone they are not, so they are trying to break free of it, but because the people getting rejected more, the monsters getting stronger.

This song symbolizes the human search for a place in society, along with the fear of rejection. All humans tend to bleme either themselves or others. In this case, the person is blaming theirself for their difference and asking forgiveness for something natural. They view themselves as a monster because they feel like an outcast who doesn't belong.
